I had an ultrasound of neck that showed 20% narrowing on left and 20 to 40% narrowing on right side. i am 53 , how serious or not is this. ?

Do you have symptoms: That degree of narrowing is usually present without symptoms. If your scan was for screening only and you are feeling well - this is considered mild narrowing. However, if you ARE having symptoms of narrowed carotid arteries, regardless of the degree or percent, you doctor with probably recommend either treatment or aggressive prevention like a cholesterol lowering drug or lifestyle changes.
