I have been experiencing knee pains ever since a kid. i have always been told it is just growing pains. the pain is under and front of kneecap.

Knee derangement: If the diagnosis is correct -growing pains- there should be medication to decrease the pain. The area you are questioning is called Osgood Slaters disease. It is due to inflammation yes growing pain. Can take OTC aleve, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen. At some point you should out grow this. See a doctor for confirmation of diagnosis and advise.
