My husband and i were moving a baby gate from our garage. we gently moved the set of gates and noticed mouse droppings underneath. we put the gate back where it was. is this an exposure for hantavirus? we didn't sweep anything up only moved the gates

If the "exposure": to mouse droppings alone were a "high risk" for hanta there would be a lot more cases of the virus world wide. WEAR a mask BUT CLEAN UP the droppings ! If you need a baby gate all the more reason to clean up! Hope this is helpful Dr Z

Hantavirus: There has only been 1 case of Hantavirus reported to the CDC from North Carolina from 1993 (when surveilance began) until JAN 2017 (which is the latest date I could find). I think you will be ok. Only 20 to 40 cases of Hantavirus are reported to the CDC annually in the US and they are mostly from the west.
