What is the advantage of isac allergy testing over rast or spt?

ISAC more specific: RAST (mostly replaced by ImmunoCap IgE) and SPT detect presence of IgE antibodies to an allergen, but ISAC detects specific reaction against known allergenic components. For example, certain components (1 or 2) in peanuts are responsible for most anaphylactic reaction while some are not. RAST or SPT cannot detect these. However aside from peanuts, ISAC still needs be evaluated and studied further.

ISAV: is considered more SPECIFIC and is useful when there are allergies detected by older tests (RAST) are multiple and it becomes difficult to detect the SPECIFIC OFFENDING allergens! Hope this is helpful! Dr Z
