Silent Killer: High blood pressure is a hidden disease that can lead to heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. This may take many years but if not treated can cause irreversible damage. High BP on its own will not cause symptoms unless it is so high as to lead to brain damage or stroke ('malignant hypertension'). It is critical to get BP checked regularly and treated if too high.
