More testing: 12 years of intermittent pain would dictate that whatever is causing the problem is likely benign. However, you need some further testing. For a 29 yo woman, having a complete GYN exam would be important and should include a pelvic ultrasound. Having red colored stools may be due to bleeding. A simple guaiac test would help. If positive, then a colonoscopy would be in order.
