Seizures: This sounds classic for seizures, also known as epilepsy. It's unusual to have this start in your 50's. Obviously this could be very dangerous, esp. if it happened while you were driving. Stop driving. There are meds that can control it but please see a doctor as soon as possible to evaluate the cause as it could be as serious as a brain tumor (not necessarily cancerous). See a neurologist ASAP.
