A member asked:

Is it clinically advisable to switch from a typical antipsychotic which works to an atypical antipsychotic for bipolar mood disorder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: on previous response to medication, your psychiatrist's reason and how long you have been on medication before switching. There is no harm in converting to an atypical antipsychotic; however, be very aware of the side effect profiles of these medicines.
