A member asked:

Are ear drops as effective in treating ear infection as oral antibiotics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: If a person has an intact ear drum & a middle ear infection, ear drops would have no way to get to the infection. Ear drops can be helpful for canal infections or occasionally if the person has tubes or a perforated ear drum. Otherwise oral medications are standard treatment for middle ear infections.
