Not unusual: Head colds are caused by dozens of different viruses. Many times the initial symptoms are in the throat for a day or two before nasal congestion ensues. Other viruses may start with head or chest congestion and then migrate to the throat. This throat soreness usually lasts only a few days. Gargle with warm,salt water and suck on lozenges for relief.
