Antibiotic needed: You must not have major surgery with an untreated infection, urinary or anywhere else. If you have been prescribed an antibiotic for your UTI, take it as prescribed. There is nothing else that will work reliably. If in doubt, check with your surgeon. Testing may be necessary to determine the best antibiotic; do not take leftover drug and do not take a pharmacist's recommendation without MD advice.

Well: If you have a urinary tract infection you need an antibiotic. Did you diagnose yourself? I would advise you to see a doctor you do not want to undergo a major surgery with any chance of any infection not safe for you
