My husband, 47, has umbilical hernia, about 16 mm in dia. no pain or no nausea. do we need surgery or shall we watch? can we have sex? thanks

Umbilical hernia: Small, asymptomatic hernias are safely watched nowadays. This is called "expectant management" meaning if symptoms change such as pain, size, or appearance, then we re-evaluate for possible surgical repair. Sexual intercourse should not be a problem unless umbilical symptoms occur.

Asymptomatic hernia: Asymptomatic hernias can be observed. Your husband should be examined periodically by a physician to ensure it is not changing. Activities should be limited by his comfort level.
