Varies: There are a number of potential considerations. Pulmonary causes such as pleurisy can cause similar symptoms as can musculoskeletal conditions among other possibilities. I would not hesitate to be seen for it.

Costochondritis: There are some patients who haven't back pain with breathing. This may be a sign of inflammation involving the soft tissue surrounding the ribs which is cartilage. This may be consistent with a diagnosis of costochondritis. I recommend seeing your primary care physician. If you need a rheumatology consult, I'll be happy to assist.
