There are normal: glands/small bumps on the pigmented skin next to the nipple, the areola. These Montgomery glands, present in both men and women, secrete oil for lubrication. A painful bump could be acne, a blocked hair follicle or an abscess (unusual if not breast feeding). VERY rarely breast cancer;usually that is painless. Any new, concerning bump should be evaluated by your doctor. Make an appointment. Stay wel

Size: Small bumps are more likely to be harmless. It does, however, sound as if you are worried. Suggest you have your regular doctor take a look. Tenderness suggests an infection.
