Depends: How did you obtain that reading. A babies core temperature (rectal) of 99.5 can be considered normal.If obtained from the armpit as many parents do, that reading would be abnormal & should be confirmed by doing a rectal temp.Any 6 wk old with a core temp of >100.4 should be taken in for evaluation immediately.
