"Micro-crunches": Your abdominal muscles, known popularly as the "six-pack", will tone up with exercise. Regular situps may hurt your back. To start doing abdominal crunches, lie down and support your neck with your hands. Then lift your head a few inches. Relax. Repeat until your muscles burn. Do that number of crunches daily for a week. The secret is to do it consistently evey day.

Serious Training: Six-pack or eight-pack "abs" are particularly difficult to get, because you don't get them just from exercise. It also takes very low body fat levels, well under 10%. So you have to lift like crazy, probably 5-6 days a week, and observe a very strict diet, as well. I would advise finding a trainer and maybe even a nutritionist. You should be able to find instruction for training online.

Female?: Females please note that if youre trying to achieve washboard abs, your bodyfat needs to be very low. As a result, you may stop having periods! this is not always healthy.
