Altitude.: If your body is not accustomed to high altitude, your heart rate may increase in order to shuttle more red blood cells around to deliver adequate oxygen to your body. Less oxygen in the air means you’re breathing in less oxygen, which means the RBCs have to circulate around quicker so they can get back to the lungs to grab more oxygen.
