Can just 1 cigarette a day cause asthma?

Still bad. : Smoking only one cigarette per day can cause damage to the lungs. And the heart. It wouldn’t technically be asthma, but it would be damage to the lungs just the same.

?? cause ??: Cigarettes do not "cause " asthma. Asthma is a condition you have that is often genetically linked. Cigarettes, air pollution, fragrances, colds, etc. can all trigger or aggravate asthma. Each of these aggravating factors do so at any level of exposure.
