Protective response: this is due to a nerve reflex that serves to protect the delicate mechanics of the eyes and ears. it is harmful to aggressively itch the inner ear. a better strategy will be to identify the source of itching (eg allergy, skin disease in the ear canal, irritant exposure, systemic disease etc) and treat it.
