Probably: Eucalyptus has not been identified as a substance that exacerbates anemia in patients with G6PD deficiency. The illness itself may be more of a trigger, however, the medical benefit of eucalyptus may not be enough to warrant any possible risk. Plant extracts in general can be immunogenic and can cause a delayed inflammatory skin reaction in some cases. Would discuss with his physician.

Safe: But do not expect any benefit. Unless you just enjoy the smell of it. How was it that he was tested? Did he react to something? Avoid fava beens. There are many meds to avoid, including certain antibiotics, meds for malaria and gout, dapsone, aspirin acetominophen. Sometimes I need to use one of these meds for such a person but must keep to a small enough dose so that the hemolysis is not too bad.
