See below: Please consult this site for info: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hiatal-hernia/basics/definition/CON-20030640 For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Yes and yes: Yes they are common, as many as 15 % people may have them and mostly they are not serious if they are simple sliding type. People who have GERD assisted with hiatal hernia or those with large hiatal hernias should be seen by surgeon to assess for need for hernia repair or antireflux surgery etc.
