The usual suspects.: If there is an area on the foot that is notorious for being associated with lingering pain, it is the area you describe. The base of the fifth metatarsal and the peroneal tendons are the usual suspects, but there certainly other possibilities. To remove all doubt, as well as preventing further problems, have your foot evaluated by a specialist.
