Herniated disc: It is possible that a herniated disc is causing a pinched nerve in your lower back. Since the pain affects you at night while you are not weight bearing, this would be one consideration. Have you had a recent injury to your lower back? There are other possibilities as well. Spine issue?: If it's not just because you're simply applying local pressure on the thigh while you sleep, then it may be related to a lumbar spine issue. May be bursitis as well, with pressure irritating an inflamed trochanteric bursa.
