A member asked:

Can i get pneumonia from lying around for 48 hours. i also stand once in a while?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Aspiration pneumonia: When we are lying down (supine), it's possible to have small amounts of oral secretions (saliva) leak into the back of the throat, towards the lungs. This happens normally, although the body tries to prevent it with a cough reflex. If someone is drunk, intoxicated, or otherwise unable to 'defend' their airway in this manner, pneumonia could result. If you are worried about this, talk to a doctor.
