Infection of lungs: Pneumonia is infection in the lung(s) caused by many types of bacteria or viruses. These infections are acquired from our immediate surroundings - by inhaling tiny droplets that carry these bugs into our lungs where they start to multiply & cause infection. Some viruses are also spread via objects that we handle. Handwashing, avoiding contact with people with colds are best preventive strategies.

Can develop quickly or can take some time, depending on the bacterium/virus involved. Signs include a measured fever and typical findings on a chest X-ray. Once treated, should stay away.
