Soap and OCD: Using soap prevents the spread of illness. Studies have shown that there is no evidence of transfer of germs from used soap indicating that any germs likely wash off the soap and the hands when you rinse them. Regular soaps: The hydrophobic end of soap molectules attaches to oil - while the hypophillic attaches to water. As the water moves away from the skin - it takes oils, dirt, germs, etc - with it.
