No, not true: Throat cancer due to HPV is on the rise, but still uncommon. Cancer-causing HPV types (mostly HPV16) are common in persons who have performed oral sex frequently, but also common in people with no oral sex. People should not avoid oral sex in order to prevent cancer. Get vaccinated against HPV and then no worries, unless previously exposed. HPV throat cancer occurs mostly age 50 and older.
