A member asked:

Ongoing muscle spasms, pain and weakness in arms & progressed to shoulders, neck and legs. started metformin a few weeks before symptoms. could there be a connection? rabdo? what test would you suggest?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Lactic acidosis: Patients have developed lactic acidosis while on metformin which can cause a host of symptoms including muscle pain and weakness. There is a blood test for lactic acid. Rhabdo can occur and has occurred when certain medications have been added to Metformin. A test also called a CPK can be run to see if muscle inflammation or injury has occurred. seek medical attention now
