Pinched nerve: That type of pain on neck motions is consistent with an impingement of a nerve by a bulging disc or vertebral spur as the nerve root exits the spine at the neck level. I recommend applying cold alternating with heat to the neck, wearing a soft neck collar brace, and taking anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve. You can use the brace while awake or asleep as needed. See your MD as neede
