Many different forms: Newborns can have as many as 8-10 bms per day to as few as 1 per 4-5 days; they can be green, yellow or brown and have the consistency of cereal, birdseed, slime or mush. Diarrhea is almost pure water repeatedly and constipation is rocky-hard rabbit pellets. Anything in between, any color (except white) or consistency can be normal.

Not effective: Most parasites need specific medication. Laxatives could make things worse, as most parasites cause diarrhea to begin with. Parasites are diagnosed with blood and stool tests, so see your doctor.

How can I begin to have regular bowel movements?

Dr. Charles Cattano

Are you normal?: Normal bowel frequency in america fits a bell-curve distribution--once daily stooling is the middle of the curve, but the normal range extends from 3 bowel movements daily to 1 bowel movement every 3-4 days. Even variable stool frequency within the confines of this bell-curve is "normal.".
