A member asked:

I purchased a multi-vitamin from the grocery store and noticed that it didn't have a usp certification. i know vitamins and supplements aren't regulated by the fda. what are the possible risks associated with taking an uncertified multi-vitamin supplement

Likely none : Many vitamins and supplements out there do not have approval. I would not be overly concerned.

Depends on the sourc: If from reliable company, ought to be OK. If from another country, have to consider contamination w/ heavy metals, unlisted ingredients, no active med in it. Even those in drug store have been found not to have any of what's on the label. If uncertain, ask pharmacist in store to advise you, or your doc can recommend a reliable brand.
