Olive oil: Olive oil is effective in removing nit glue. Apply a liberal amount of olive oil to the hair and cover with a shower cap. Wait at least 5 hours or overnight before trying to remove the nits with a metal nit comb. Once nits are combed out you can shampoo the hair as normal.

I like vinegar: A stout vinegar like apple cider or pickling vinegar are mild acidic fluids that help dissolve the bonds between the hair & the nit. Using it as a daily rinse followed by combing out with a metal nit comb will usually do the job. There is conflicting reports that the vinegar may also kill living lice.
