A member asked:

How concerned should i be with a wbc of 3.7 thousand/ml, and is there a way to improve the reading with diet (vegan)?

Not to worry: A WBC count of 3700 is on the low end of the normal range. The next important aspect is the differential count(this means percentage of Neutrophils and lymphocytes). As long as you have neutrophils make up >50% of the WBC count you should have no worries. Keep an eye on your blood counts in a years time and see if the counts remain same or change. If the WBC count is <3500, you should go to a MD

Absolute counts: This is low-normal, and that's probably fine. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside. The absolute numbers (WBC x percentage) are what's concerning. As long as your absolute lymphocyte count is maybe 800 or above, and the neutrophils above around 1200, you're fine. These fluctuate wildly. Vegan is safe if and only if you follow sound advice on supplements.
