Passing out: Loss of consciousness is fainting. Typically from transient inadequate flow to the brain. Can be caused by dehydration, vasovagal syn cope, trauma, intracranial bleeding, etc.

Vasovagal: The common cause of fainting is a vasovagal reflex, which the activation of the vagus nerve causing rapid slow down of heart rate causing a sudden shut down of blood supply to the bain and then fainting, as soon as the person falls and be supine the blood supply returs to the barin and the person returns completely awake.
