Hard to say: Without knowing anything else, guesses include 1) migraine phenomenon; 2) seizure phenomenon; 3) some kind of cranial neuralgia; or 4) something else. The fact that you've had it your whole life suggests it's not dangerous (so less likely #2). It sounds, however, like something that's worth seeing a neurologist about.
