Possible but: It is unusual for a bacterial sinus infection to cause a rise in ESR although a viral one may be associated with it. ESR tends to rise with age and anemia or estrogen use in addition to inflammation. I prefer to use CRP as an inflammation marker because of all these factors. A persistently elevated CRP especially when there are symptoms associated with inflammation needs be monitored
