Hormones: During pregnancy your body changes and so do the female hormones. The esophagus and stomach also become displaced anatomically due to the developing pregnancy. The sphincter (valve) at the end of the food tube can loosen. It is easier for stomach acid to go back up tube. Additional visceral fat squeezes the anatomy. Pills neutralize the acid and stop reflux pressure into stomach.
