Breakthrough bleedin: Blood estrogen levels are low around the time of ovulation, which usually comes on cycle day 14-16 (day 1 is the day menstrual bleeding starts). For some women, this mid-cycle dip in estrogen level is enough to cause breakthrough bleeding or spotting.
