TMJ evaluation : Your jaw should be evaluated by a TMJ specialist, usually a dentist with special interest in this field. The mouth guard may make the pain worse since the position of the bite may be incorrect. Let the specialist evaluate, diagnose, and treat your problem.

TMD/TMJ: Dentist vary widely in training and experience treating patients with TMD/TMJ Dysfunction. OTC mouth guards can actually do more harm than good in some cases. Dentists with limited training/knowledge may fabricate lab mouth guards merely to open bite. However, it may not incorporate ability to correct jaw position! There are other considerations and treatments as well. Find experienced dentist.
