Hi: omniprozole and others like it cause severe constipation and stomach pain. 2 yrs ago endoscopy show signs suggestive of barretts. not on anything for 1 yr and fine-then a flare up. what can i take that does not cause constipation? on pepcid.

Protonix: I'm not sure what is causing your abdominal pain as Barrett's esophagus is not a usual cause. Nevertheless protonix is a PPI like prilosec but, in my experience, doesn't usually cause constipation. Your gastroenterologist can advise you best, however as he/she knows the facts of your case.

Pepcid: Can be the culprit, would cause constipation. PPIs as omeprazole and others, rather cause diarrhea as a common side effect, as well as abdominal pains. I would rather seek a gastroenterologist's input for the problem of intractable constipation as it may not be related to the drugs mentioned, best wishes
