Podiatrist: For mild ingrown toenail trim back nail and pack with cotton. For infected nail the inflammed tissue may need to be professionally removed by a foot doctor. If this is a recurrent problem there is an in office acid procedure which narrows the nail and prevents recurrences.

Soaks, podiatry: Soaking the toe in warm salt water can help. Not cutting toenails too short is important. However sometimes the nail edge needs to be removed. Most podiatrists can help with that.
