No rubbing: Your son is getting sinus congestion from the virus causing his cold. Get him a decongestant. If it goes on to form discharge from his eyes, keep them clean. Watery discharge will go away. If it is thick discharge, see a doctor for a culture and antibiotic eye drops. The best of wishes
