May be Osgood-Schlat: Tera disease. Pain is at the anterior tibial tuberosity. Most common in active athletes. Pain will usually resolve on own. Most prominent on bump about 2" below knee cap when you push in on it. Read up on it on www.mayoclinic.com or www.johnshopkins.com

Possibly: There are multiple potential causes, and among them could certainly be a stress fracture. I would not hesitate to be seen and thoroughly evaluated.
