Need rest. : The pain is telling you the bone is damaged and needs rest. If you continue to compete and push the issue could suffer problems down the road. Rest and rehab best scenerio for this type injury. I would see a orthopedic sports medicine specialist to help your recovery.

Possible fracture: Worst care scenario is that your stress fracture will progress to complete fracture and then require surgery. Rest and activity modification are the most important treatments for stress fractures and should be utilized until completely pain free. Shin splints are much less likely to progress though only a physical examination can help differentiate these 2 conditions
