Abnormal periods: Getting abnormal periods can happen for many reasons, but first and foremost, if you're sexually active, make sure you get a pregnancy test. The color of the period (brown vs red) isn't as concerning as the irregularity. Irregular periods and spotting can happen for many reasons, but when they do start happening, your doc should do a thorough history and exam to find out what's going on.
