I am writing a book where i want my character to become unconscious for several hours after a terrifying experience would this be possible?

Yes: Could have a conversion or dissociative reaction after a particularly stressful experience which can lead to altered consciousness/impaired responsiveness. If you're very concerned about medical accuracy may be worth in depth discussion with a psychiatrist as they are expert in these matters. Good luck with your book.

Writing: Yes, the character in your book can become unconscious. You can also give him/her amnesia for a while. This can add a psychological dimension to your work. Peace and good health.
