A 29-year-old female asked:

if i have iud copper and my boyfriend didn't finnish inside me ( pull out methods) should i be worried about anything?

Depends: The cited failure rate of a copper IUD is less than 1%/yr of use. The risk is the same whether he finished up or not, since he is leaking sperm continually during sex. Worry could apply to several issues. The IUD does not prevent STD's.

Copper: Excess copper in the body is released in the blood and can accumulate in the tissues, particularly in the kidneys, eyes, and brain. When it goes to the brain, it usually deposits in nerves that are associated with movement, perception, and mood regulation. This causes a patient to lose coordination and become clumsy. Seizures, migraines, and cognitive defects may also result from excess copper.

Yes: Best to have your primary doctor follow specific levels for the next 18-24 months. Checking them every 6 months over this time course if you are seriously concerned.

Can the paraguard IUD cause endometrial lining to thicken?

Dr. Jeff Livingston

Not really : The paragard iud is hormone free. It works by creating a toxic environment for sperm preventing fertilization. Because it is hormone free it has no real effect on the endometrial lining. It does not thin it out like Mirena (levonorgestrel) but also does not thicken it either.
A 33-year-old member asked:

How would I know if the progesterone IUD is in the right place?

Feel for the strings: Strings are attached to your iud. Reach into your vagina until you feel something hard like the end of your nose. This is the cervix or birth canal. You should be able to feel the strings (2) as you move your finger around the cervix like a clock . If you can't feel the strings (they may curl into the cervix), ask your doctor to find it by ultrasound. Strings = proper placement.

Tremendous: The progesteron IUD is as effective as getting your tubes tied in preventing pregnancy. In addition it helps with anemia, prevents fibroids, endometriosis, and uterine cancer. It also reduces a woman's risk for a hysterectomy.
