Varies: It is different for all the different antihistamines. For example, benadryl (diphenhydramine) reaches maximum effect within about 1 hour, but effect only lasts 2-9 hours. Zyrtec (cetirizine) reaches max effect within 1 hour as well, but the effect lasts >24 hours.
