My child aged 14 years often his nose starts bleeding, can you advise the reason for this and any medication which could help.

Depends on cause..: Nose bleeds in kids can be caused by a number of things. The number one cause by far is nose picking. Dry skin inside the nose can also be a problem (a little vaseline can help). Friable blood vessels in nose can be cause (need to see ENT to get treatment). Lastly, low platelets can cause pretty severe nose bleeds (>20 minutes). Treatment depends on cause of low platelets.

Several possibities: Most childhood nose bleeds are related to irritation of the nasal passages either from allergies or the irritant nature of inhaled debris. Regular use of non sedating anti-histamines will help some. Nasal wash out with saline helps many. Application of a nasal saline gel at the front of the nose before bed can keep the nasal membranes moist & decrease bleeding.
