Did something to it?: Hard to say for sure but could be an infection that might produce these symptoms. Fevers? is it warm to touch? Could be a clot. If it is really bothering you would a doctor.

May possibilities: Serious ones include clot and infection as mentioned above. Also could be a local muscle or nerve problem. Very hard without examining to determine what is likely. Recommend urgent consultation with a doctor licensed in your area due to the severity of the the pain the possibility of a serious cause for it.
